Another First Bass
Young Harvey Ormsby aged 9 was treated to a days fishing by good friend Tim Murrell on board Richie Ryan'sboat "Sea Hawk" recently. Harvey , from Bolton , was on holidays and wanted to catch a fish.As conditions deteriorated, Richie decided to head for a sheltered secret location of his.
Harvey had his first bass of approx 6 lbs ( see photo) and a further 2.The largest fish was a fine bass of 8 lbs weight .As Harvey struggled to boat the fish it was decided to release the bass straight away in order not to stress her any further. In fact all fish were released.
Tim got slagged as he managed only one bass, but it was his first ever bass also !

First Bass In 50 Years !
It's been 50 years since Nils Roring caught a bass ! Robin , his son .decided to treat his dad and booked a bass session with Richie Ryan of Eire Bass. A few minutes into the session and Nils was in a fine fish of about 5 lbs. And more bass followed on what was a good session on board "Sea Hawk". 50 yrs is a long time to wait for a bass but the Roring's won't be waiting as long again as they have definitely decided to book Richie again soon.

Derek Davis Outing

Derek Davis
I had the well known fisherman and TV personality Derek Davis out angling recently. We had been having excellent cod fishing all along and guess what - we had no cod only pollack on the day.Conditions were poor and I could not get to one of my favourite marks unfortunately.Derek's old friend Dick Collins came along also. We topped it all off with a beautiful meal in Trade Winds Cobh. The previous week Dave Forde was out for some cod on soft plastics as a belated 60th birthday present and we had some excellent fishing. He even wrote about it in his column in the Evening Echo- photo attached.

Cork Harbour bass anglers turn to bait as harbour churned up
Photo: A fine 5lb bass caught last week on a clouser fly.
Fly fishing expert, Richie Ryan, reports great fishing upto last weekend. Richie operates the first licensed salt water fly fishing boat in the country and can take upto three anglers at a time. Although, he first preference is fly fishing, all forms of angling are catered for. This time last year bass were very scarce in the harbour, but there has been a big improvement in numbers caught by various methods this year. Richie has had exceptional lure fishing so far, especially on a lure supplied by his good Welsh friend and mentor, Andrew Davies - a Megabass x140 , traded for a carton of fags no less! Prospects for bass fishing in the harbour look very promising. Richie's rates are very reasonable and supplies tackle aswell.
